ISBT Politics
Roger,
Since I won't
probably be in 1st thing Monday AM and you seem to be doing the right thing
about getting the system working right, I think I should give you a lead on the
new politics of the job. I could tell you later Monday, but I think it is best
you think about the whole story....
IBST is soon to
contract with another of our Southeast Asia customers, NCREE (National Center For Research on Earthquake Engineering
), to come teach them how to do earthquake shake table
and structural tests. NCREE is the foremost Taiwan laboratory and is a HUGE MTS
customer. Dr. Lin (Lab head) and 2 of his senior research scientists will be
going to IBST to train them in doing testing. This will include NCREE
manufacturing 2 (TWO) specimens for IBST and delivering to Vietnam to be used as
part of the training program. They will be training IBST in all aspects,
specimen construction techniques, instrumentation of specimens, data
acquisition, and data analysis. Suviet says that the order will be placed by
IBST to NCREE in a few months. Both companies will be at the 4 year Seismic
World Congress to be held in early Oct in Beijing China. I am pretty sure that
no one in sales even knows about this. This is another example of how close the
earthquake community is in the entire world. Everyone knows everyone AND they
stick together like glue. For Example, NCREE is getting the 493 controller, a
LOT of accumulators, pumps, etc that Kajima (Tokyo) is dumping for
free from their old seismic system, since they are getting a brand new 494
controller early next year with their new system.
So, the bottom line
is: DO NOT assume that IBST is operating in a vacuum. They will soon know all
there is to know about seismic testing.
I copied Dave Kusner
because he will be in Beijing for this conference and may be of some assistance
or at least "ears".
